A compromise reached between Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton and state lawmakers on buffer zones between agricultural operations and bodies of water should stand up, despite being vetoed in an earlier measure. That’s according to Minnesota Farmers Union’s Vice President of Government Relations Thom Petersen.
Petersen says the buffer zone is important in preventing nitrogen from leaking into waters and providing enough setback to protect the environment. He says this compromise achieves that.
The special legislative session is expected to get underway either late this week or sometime next week.
