Various pieces of legislation are being offered in the Minnesota legislature intended to fix the current buffer law. State Farm Bureau Associate Public Policy Director Cole Rupprecht says one of the bills they’re supporting is sponsored by Representative Paul Torkelson. It would provide money to counties to enforce the buffer law.

He says they’re also working with state lawmakers to find the proper way to enforce the buffer rule.

Rupprecht says most farmers don’t object to the 16.5 foot buffers but are against the 50 foot buffers.

Rupprecht says the DNR has come out with the buffer maps and he’s encouraging their members to study those carefully.
