University of Nebraska officials…on all the campuses…have recommended a number of cuts to cope with a 49-Million budget shortfall.
President Hank Bounds says the university system must cut expenses after the legislature cut state funding this past legislation session. He says special budget response committees have recommended permanent budget cuts totaling 30-Million dollars. . .
Bounds says the recommendations include creating standardization and driving out duplication. . .
Bounds says he hopes to keep tuition hikes within the range already approved by the Board of Regents: 5-percent this year and 3-percent next year.
He says more cuts will be announced later, likely early next year.
