Last week, Congress approved a two-year budget deal that includes the biodiesel tax credit. American Soybean Association Board member and South Dakota grower Kevin Scott says it’s a one-year $1 per gallon blenders credit that’s retroactive and covers 2017.
He says they wanted a multi-year tax incentive and eventually want to see it changed to a producers, rather than a blenders credit.
Scott says the tax incentive is important for both biodiesel producers and for soybean farmers.
Scott says they’ll continue work for a quick extension for 2018 and ultimately a commonsense long-term extension.
He says they’d like to see the biodiesel industry grow to the point where it can stand on its own without the tax incentive.
