Three budget bills designed to adjust state spending with a drop in state revenue have passed the Nebraska legislature, but not until opponents held up passage for more than an hour to criticize Title X (10) language.
Senator Ernie Chambers of Omaha chastised fellow legislators for giving in to Governor Pete Ricketts on the language he wanted
The language restricts federal family planning money to only clinics which do NOT perform abortions, effectively keeping the money from going to Planned Parenthood.
Senator Anna Wishart of Lincoln, who worked on compromise language, tells colleagues it’s apparent Ricketts targeted Planned Parenthood by insisting the language be included.
The budget bills approved make budget cuts and transfers cash reserves to offset a decline in state revenue.
