Brookings Dairy Draws Support

Supporters of a proposed 4,000 cow dairy in Brookings County South Dakota say it is not an environmental concern and the benefits outweigh any risk. Lisa Schmidt is a business owner in Hendricks, Minnesota. She has talked to Michael Crinion with Global Dairy, she’s talked to engineers and she’s toured the site. Her conclusion is Global Dairy is a good actor, the larger dairies abide by strict rules, and the overall risk of the dairy polluting Lake Hendricks is minimal.
She says the site for the dairy is five miles from the lake and there is also a dam on Deer Creek that would protect the lake from any excessive runoff.
Additionally she says the dairy would benefit the entire area economically.
Schmidt says the community would be much better served by working with the dairy instead of pursuing this legal battle.
