The Briar Cliff University women posted a four round, 72-hole total of 1338 to claim the 2016-17 Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Women’s Golf Championship.

Morningside was second in the team race with a 1354, while Mount Marty placed third with a 72-hole total of 1381 Briar Cliff and Morningside were tied heading into the final round.

The 72 holes were played at Willow Run in Sioux Falls, SD, (18 in the fall) and Quail Run in Columbus, NE (54 in the spring).

In the individual race Amy Ahlers from Concordia posted four round total of 319, with a final day total of (77-83) 160 to claim medalist honors. Kristin Sabers from Dakota Wesleyan was second with a 324 while Logan Wagner was third with a 328.

Tuesday’s final round was played with temperatures in the mid to upper 60’s with winds of 5-10 mph.

Briar Cliff earns the GPAC Automatic Berth to the NAIA Women’s Golf National Championship in Palm Beach, Florida, at PGA National-Fazio Course. The event runs May 23-26, 2017. Ahlers also advances as the GPAC Individual Medalist.
