Great Britain’s exit from the European Union could slow down or even derail the Trans Atlantic Trade and Investment Partnership negotiations. Nebraska farmer and U.S. Soybean Export Council Director Jim Miller was in Europe during the vote and says the Brexit vote was unprecedented and will have implications for the trade deal. However, the Brexit divorce will take some time.
Miller says in the meantime, it looks like U.S. trade negotiators will move ahead with the TTIP talks with the EU, although the process will be slowed by Brexit.
He says while in Europe they talked to members of the European Parliament about their slow process for approving U.S. biotech traits. They were hoping to get those concerns addressed in the TTIP negotiations, but it’s unclear if Brexit has derailed those hopes.
