Brand legislation is working its way through the Nebraska legislature. LB 572 moved forward on Monday. State Senator Steve Erdman says he offered a pair of amendments, one which was approved and the other left out of the bill. He says what was left in the bill is a provision calling for legislative oversight of any Brand Commission appointments by the Governor.

He says another component that was left in his amendment to the brand bill calls for penalties of anyone found guilty of tampering with animal identification tags.

Erdman says he was disappointed his other amendment that called for elimination of registered feed yards wasn’t include in the measure that advanced.

Both the Independent Cattlemen of Nebraska and Nebraska Farmers Union were in favor of Erdman’s amendments.
