The Boys and Girls Club of Yankton announced a capital campaign that will be used to build a brand new facility adjacent to Yankton Middle School. The campaign’s total goal is $7 million. To date, $4.9 million has been pledged, with more than half of that coming from Larry and Diane Ness and First Dakota National Bank. Ness says it is the best investment he’s ever made.

The new facility will serve as a place for over 500 students to stay before and after school to work on homework, learn alongside mentors, and interact with each other for only $25 a year. Mark Mooney is President of the B & G Club Advisory Council and says $3 million of the $7 million will be used for an endowment fund.

With a lease agreement approved from the school board, the building will be located next to the middle school. Superintendent Dr. Wayne Kindle says the project will fill a large need within the community.

Ground breaking is expected early this fall. The announcement was made during an event at Yankton Middle School Wednesday afternoon with the whole student body and many community leaders in attendance.
