Both the oil industry and biofuels industry groups have filed lawsuits against the Environmental Protection Agency regarding rulemaking on the volume obligations under the Renewable Fuel Standard. Nebraska Ethanol Board Administrator Todd Sneller says both sides are frustrated with the EPA over the issue, but he doesn’t see a quick resolution.
He says the EPA’s decision on the RFS did not follow the statutory requirements set by Congress.
Sneller says the biofuels industry can’t wait for the courts to act and must work on other options to make the industry viable going forward.
Sneller says biofuel officials need to look at developing new international markets, as well as lower carbon markets to grow the industry.
