This week a group of Bon Homme County, South Dakota residents led by local farmer Robert Jerke handed in a petition calling for a moratorium on all CAFOS or confined animal feeding operations in the county. Jerke says they have several issues they want addressed including tighter restrictions on those operations as well as environmental cleanup requirements.
Jerke says along with the moratorium on CAFOs, his group also wants environmental and health concerns addressed as well as a plan to fix roads.
He says they’ve gathered several signatures calling for the moratorium.
The county zoning board took no action on the moratorium request at Monday’s meeting.
