Bon Homme County Pork Producer Concerned Over Zoning Proposal

Bon Homme County South Dakota Pork Producer Dave Guthmiller who has five finishing hog operations in the county and is proposing three more is disappointed by a zoning board recommendation this week. It would tighten rules for confined animal feeding operations in requiring a permit for operations with 500 or more animal units. He’s concerned about its possible negative impact on ag economic development.

Guthmiller says he wants to see more of what’s specifically being recommended and will then weigh in with the elected officials with his concerns. He says most ag operations are environmentally responsible.

The Zoning Board recommendation is expected to be considered by the Bon Homme County Board of Commissioners at their May 3 meeting.
