A group of Bon Homme County South Dakota residents met with the Planning and Zoning Commission this week. The group which included former state legislator Frank Kloucek expressed concern at the rapid expansion of confined animal feeding operations in the county. He say they have environmental and safety concerns with the operations and want a one year moratorium on all new construction of CAFOS over 500 animal units.

He says besides safety features, their group wants permit requirements for the large CAFOs including bonding regulations.

Kloucek says the only CAFOs that should be allowed must be those that can use biofilters effectively.

Kloucek says this was their initial meeting with the Planning and Zoning Board and they intend to meet with them again as well as the full Bon Homme County Commission.
