Congress last week approved and sent to the President legislation authorizing construction of the Keystone XL Pipeline. BOLD Nebraska’s Energy Director Ben Gotschall says his group is counting on and expecting the President to veto the bill. He also doesn’t think there’s enough votes to override that decision.
Some amendments were added to the Keystone XL bill in order to try and make it palatable to the President however Gotschall doesn’t think they’re enough to convince him not to veto the legislation.
One amendment added to the Keystone bill made a strong statement that climate change is not a hoax and another non binding amendment said the pipeline should be subject to a tax to fund an oil spill liability fund.
