While the 2016 South Dakota legislative session is over four months away, those wanting dollars are lining up. The Board of Regents among the latest, asking for another tuition freeze, which could cost about five million dollars. Other groups including counties, medical providers and schools will also be in line.

There was over twenty million dollars in last year’s budget that rolled over at the end of the fiscal year, adding to the states reserves.
Peters says some of that money will be added to next year’s budget requests…
Peters says she thinks it will be tough to pass any additional tax increases next year…
County officials have raised the prospect of increasing the state sales tax.
