Tuesday, the South Dakota Animal Industry Board tabled a license application hearing for Stockmen’s Incorporated to operate a livestock auction barn in Yankton. State Veterinarian Dr. Dustin Oedekoven says the application was submitted by Greg Ryken and the Board decided to gather more information before proceeding further on the matter.
Oedekoven says the Board also decided to repeal the 40 year old Calve quarantine rule.
Oedekoven says even though it’s no longer a rule it’s still advisable to quarantine the calves in order to lessen their stress. He says one other action the Board took was to repeal an old Brucellosis testing order for cattle coming from Idaho. Oedekoven says new rules in Idaho have mitigated that problem.
