Boadwine Dairy near Baltic, South Dakota will be holding an Open House this Saturday to show the public what’s involved in a modern dairy operation. Herd Manager Heidi Selken says it’s important to open their doors to the public because most consumers have very little knowledge about how milk and dairy products get to their table.
She says Boadwine Dairy is a fourth generation operation that started with just 42 cows and has grown to over 2,000 head.
Owner Lynn Boadwine says as he’s expanded he has added many technologies that have helped him be more efficient and helped to lower the dairy’s environmental footprint.
Boadwine admits he’s had many growing pains with livestock zoning and the negative public perception of CAFO’s or Confined Animal Feeding Operations. So he’s hoping the open house can dispel some of those concerns.
The open house is hosted by Ag United and will run from 10am to 2pm. It features free lunch with cheeseburgers and a host of other dairy products.
