Blue Cross and Blue Shield Scam Hits Nebraskans

Blue Cross and Blue Shield Scam Hits Nebraskans

Scam artists based in Florida are posing as Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska.  Chief Security Officer Kerry Kremke says they were using Blue Cross’ logo and web address to make the offer look legitimate.

Kremke says the scammers had a fake website that prompted consumers to give them a call for insurance needs.

The Nebraska Attorney General’s office believes the scam is affiliated with an entity called Simple Health of Hollywood, Florida.  The scam artists collect personal information and offer insurance plans well below the market value.  The customers are charged but never receive insurance cards or proof of coverage.  They also make it very difficult to cancel.  Anyone who believes they are a victim of this scam is encouraged to call the Attorney General’s Customer Protection Division at 1-800-727-6432.
