This week the National Academies of Science issued a report that said genetically engineered crops are just as safe as foods from non g.e. crops. Biotechnology Innovation Organization’s Director of Regulatory Affairs Clint Nesbitt says the study echoed what scientific evidence has shown over the years about the safety of genetically engineered crops.
He says the NAS report was very thorough and objective in looking at biotech crops.
Nesbitt says the NAS study also pointed out the benefits farmers have experienced as a result of growing biotech crops.
Another important finding from the NAS report is there’s no conclusive evidence of relationships between genetically modified crops and environmental problems.
