97 Percent of General Mills shareholders have shot down a proposal that would have forced the company to remove genetically modified organisms from its products. South Dakota Biotech Association Executive Director Joni Johnson says having a large company back G-M-Os is a great victory for biotechnology and proof the message is getting out that they are safe.
Johnson says companies and consumers are beginning to see the value of biotechnology and this week’s General Mills vote bodes well for future acceptance.
The decision by General Mills supporting biotech follows previous decisions by Monsanto and Safeway in denying proposals to require labeling of G-M-Os with their companies.
