The USDA may have to wait until later this year to get the funding for a study on electronic biotech labeling mandated by Congress in the national biotech labeling law passed earlier this year. That money is not included in the continuing resolution passed this week by the Senate. American Soybean Association Board member and South Dakota grower Kevin Scott doesn’t see the delay as a major problem with the biotech labeling law.
He says the study delay is just a minor hiccup in the implementation process.
The electronic biotech labeling study was mandated as part of the biotech labeling law, but Congress also set a deadline of two years for the study and for USDA to implement the biotech labeling rules.
