Biotech Labeling Bill Slow to Move in Senate

North Dakota Senator John Hoeven is trying to drum up Democratic co- sponsors for his companion bill calling for national voluntary biotech labeling. South Dakota Corn Grower’s President Keith Alverson says his group supported the House passed measure and they’re hoping to get bi-partisan support to pass the Senate legislation.

He says probably the most important aspect of the voluntary labeling bill is the positive message it sends to consumers.

Alverson says having one federal regulation in place is important so consumers and producers aren’t confused and can understand what needs to be done.

Alverson says it may take some time to get the Senate bill introduced as Congress is focused on other more primary issues such as the budget.
