Biotech Labeling Bill Lacks Senate Democratic Support

A measure calling for voluntary national biotech labeling is currently stalled in the U.S. Senate. It’s a companion measure to the House version being sponsored by Kansas Congressman Mike Pompeo. Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley says the bill’s Senate sponsor, Republican John Hoeven of North Dakota is having trouble reaching across the aisle for support.

Grassley says while he likes Pompeo’s legislation he thinks a strong lobbying effort is keeping Hoeven’s bill from advancing.

The Senate Ag Committee is scheduled to hold a hearing on biotechnology today.
