Biotech Chair Says General Mills Made Right GMO Decision

The Biotech Committee chair for the National Corn Grower’s Association Jim Zimmerman is hailing the move by General Mills shareholders this week in supporting genetically modified organisms. 97 percent of shareholders voted down a plan that would have forced the company to remove GMOS from their products. Zimmerman thinks it should be up to companies and consumers to decide for themselves about G-M-Os.
Zimmerman says as far as governance over GMOS, that should be handled at the national level where there’s one solid regulation rather than mish mosh of state regulations.
Zimmerman is pleased that General Mills CEO Ken Powell is standing by what he calls overwhelming research and studies that show GMO’s are safe and have both environmental and humanitarian benefits.
