Biofuels Trade Groups Ask for Multi-Year Tax Credit Extensions

Biofuels Trade Groups Ask for Multi-Year Tax Credit Extensions

Six biofuels trade groups have written House and Senate leaders asking them for a multi-year extension on advanced biofuel tax credits. The groups were led by the Advanced Biofuels Business Council. Executive Director Brooke Coleman says they want Congress to pass this extension before the end of the year.

He says without the extension it makes it difficult for second generation biofuels projects to move forward and leaves too much uncertainty, which jeopardizes those projects.

Coleman says it’s also critical Congress and the administration recognize that corn based biofuels are tied to second generation biofuels and so a strong RFS is needed so they can both be viable.

Coleman says there’s no good rationale for letting temporary tax breaks for advanced biofuels expire at the end of this year, while ongoing and permanent subsidies are given to the fossil fuels industry.
