A study conducted by LMC International found that 2.1 billion gallons of biodiesel and renewable diesel last year supported close to 48,000 jobs and had an economic impact of $8.4 billion. National Biodiesel Board Vice President of Federal Affairs Anne Steckel says the EPA needs to take this into account when determining the RFS levels for biomass based diesel.
She says if the EPA were to increase the biomass based diesel volumes to 2.5 billion gallons in 2018, that would have an economic impact of $14.7 billion and provide even more jobs.
Steckel says several Senators have written EPA, asking the agency to raise these volumes.
Steckel says nearly 100 biodiesel leaders are in the nation’s capital this week calling for strong clean fuels policy and also pushing for a biodiesel producers tax credit.
