The U.S. Biodiesel market shrunk in 2014 falling to 1.75 billion gallons of production. That was down slightly from nearly 1.8 billion gallons in 2013. National Biodiesel Board’s Ben Evans says policy uncertainty led to the decrease which caused many plants to shut down or reduce production.
Evans says while biodiesel producers were hurt by the failure by Congress to pass the tax incentive until the end of the year, it was failure by EPA to put out robust RFS levels that was the major factor for decreased production.
Evans says his group is calling on the Obama administration to get things back on track immediately by finalizing RFS volumes. He says that would pave the way for stable growth in the coming years.
