A bill that would have rolled back ag land valuations in Nebraska to sixty five percent from the current seventy five percent was defeated in the Revenue Committee this week.
The bill had wide spread support among ag and rural groups and Governor Pete Ricketts.
Rickets says he wants to talk to the groups involved and look for a compromise.
There was concern about the impact of the lowered valuations on state aid to education. Ricketts says his plan would have spread that change out over several years.
Rickets says property tax relief is still his number one goal.
The bill could be revived later in the session
