Legislation to provide a tax credit for veterans wanting to start farming is being heard in committee this week in the Nebraska Unicameral. Center for Rural Affairs Policy Manager Jordan Rasmussen says her group backs the measure which failed to get out of committee last session.

She says the existing tax credit helps beginning farmers acquire land, which is one of the biggest challenges. Rasmussen adds with the expansion veterans can receive the same benefit.

Rasmussen thinks they have a better chance this session of getting the legislation approved.

Rasmussen says CFRA members will be offering testimony later this session on property tax relief legislation and a soil health bill.
