Bill to Give Schools Nutrition Flexibility in Senate Committee

The Child Nutrition Reauthorization legislation is due up in a Senate Committee this week. Senate Ag Committee leaders Pat Roberts and Debbie Stabenow have been working on a bi-partisan measure to provide healthy food and yet give schools more flexible rules. Nebraska Farm Bureau National Affairs Coordinator Jordan Dux says it’s clear the former rule didn’t work because one size doesn’t fit all and flexibility is needed.

Dux says he’s happy to see the two parties working together on the problem rather than getting bogged down in partisan politics.

Dux says it’s important school children have access to healthy foods but also it’s critical school districts are given the flexibility they need to make the program work.
