This week Nebraska State Senators failed to advance LB 461, a measure to cut state income taxes and change the ag land valuation method, so its dead for this session. Nebraska Farm Bureau members who had concerns about the bill now want the Unicameral to focus on property tax relief. Ashley Mick, State Government Relations Director for Farm Bureau says there’s still time to get that done before the legislature adjourns.
She says LB 461 never achieved the type of tax relief needed by most Nebraskans. Mick says whatever Senators pass must balance out the three legged tax stool, property, income and sales taxes.
Mick says Senators need to iron out the budget and then hopefully there will be time to move forward property tax relief legislation.
Mick says her group intends to keep asking legislators for property tax relief and even if they can’t get it passed this session will try again over the interim and next session.
