North Dakota state senators have advanced a measure to allow corporate ownership of dairy and swine operations. The state has had a corporate ownership ban for a number of years. Bill Sponsor Senator Terry Wanzek says the intention of his bill is to encourage expansion of agricultural livestock operations which have been on the downswing lately.
Wanzek says without allowing corporate ownership, the state will lose all of its dairies.
Wanzer says the rate at which dairy operations are going out of business in North Dakota is quite alarming.
Wanzek’s bill passed the Senate on a 27 to 18 vote and has now moved over to the House.
