North Dakota Farmers Union leaders are concerned state Senators have approved a measure and sent it to the House to allow corporate ownership of swine and dairy operations. State Farmers Union’s Legislative Director Kayla Pulvermacher says the measure would allow the size of swine and dairy operations to grow dramatically and concentrate power in a corporate system.
Pulvermacher says if her group can’t stop this bill in the state legislature they’ll try to stop it through an initiated ballot measure.
Pulvermacher says the ban on corporate agricultural ownership in North Dakota has been in place for a long time and has led to more family owned and run operations.
Pulvermacher says if the legislation passes the House it will change the face of agriculture in North Dakota.
