A bill passed the 2015 session of the South Dakota legislature that will make major changes to the way water drainage is managed.

The bill was the product of at least two years of meetings and ideas. Senator Jason Frerichs of Wilmot was one of the prime backers of the bill…

Frerichs says the pilot project on the South Dakota – Minnesota border will set the stage for the other districts across the state…

Frerichs says it will take some time to follow through on the law, and move toward the drainage districts…

The bill survived several attempts to kill it on the way to approval.
