South Dakota state senators have unanimously advanced a measure offered by the South Dakota Public Utilities Commission to improve the financial reporting of grain buyers. Commissioner Chris Nelson says it mandates Class A grain buyers or elevators file quarterly reports with the PUC.

He says the legislation also changes PUC has the financial information needed from grain buyers to assure those companies have the financial ability to pay for all the product they purchase from South Dakota’s grain producers.

The legislation now advances to the South Dakota House and is expected to come up within the next two weeks.
