On Monday President Joe Biden and Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack met with farmers and ranchers at the White House to announce a meat and poultry supply chain action plan. Joining the President was Kelsey Ducheneaux-Scott, South Dakota cattle producer and Director of Programs for the Intertribal Agriculture Council.
She says $1 billion of American Rescue Plan funds will support workers and critically needed infrastructure at independent processors.
Ducheneaux-Scott says the Biden Action Plan also addresses the lack of fairness and transparency in the market for farmers and consumers.
Competition will be increased through stricter enforcement of existing competition laws, issuing stronger rules under the Packers and Stockyards Act and new product of USA labeling rules.
