Biofuels and farm groups are welcoming the Biden Administration’s move to make E15 available across the nation this summer.
The announcement will come in Iowa as President Biden works to bring down the price of gasoline across the country. U.S. EPA will for the first time every issue a national emergency waiver allowing gasoline blended at the higher rate of 15 percent ethanol from June 1 to September 15.
American Coalition for Ethanol CEO Brian Jennings says they’re encouraged the Biden administration is finally utilizing ethanol to help with the energy crisis.
South Dakota Corn Growers Association President Scott Stahl says the decision is a positive for farmers.
He says the E15 announcement also provides reliability for ethanol producers and consumers.
The emergency use waiver covers 20-day periods and will be issued closer to June 1. It will stay in place as long as gasoline prices remain inflated as caused by the war in Ukraine.
The administration is also said to be considering a year-round waiver for corn-based ethanol E15 gasoline blends.
