The South Dakota State women’s tennis team fell to top-seeded Denver, 4-0, in the Summit League Tournament championship match Sunday at the Kachmann Tennis Center.

“Our girls had a tremendous season and have no reasons to hang their heads today,” head coach Michael Engdahl said. “We ran into a tough Denver team that played top-notch tennis. Our girls didn’t back down from the challenge, and I am proud of the fight we showed today.”

The Jackrabbits’ runner-up finish is their best in program history. Going into this year’s tournament, South Dakota State was 0-2 in Summit League Tournament action.

The Pioneers clinched their second-straight tournament championship after winning the doubles point and posting victories at first, sixth and fourth singles. The Jackrabbits concluded the season with a 15-8 (5-2 SL) record.

“With no seniors on this team our challenge now is to raise the bar and create higher challenges and goals,” Engdahl said. “We know the level we have to achieve, and our job is to do whatever it takes to make it happen.”
