Congressmen Tim Walz of Minnesota and Jeff Fortenberry of Nebraska have introduced the Beginning Farmer and Rancher Opportunity Act of 2017. Center for Rural Affairs Policy Program Associate Anna Johnson says the broad-based measure provides many components important for those just starting in the business.
She says the bill raises loan limits for beginning producers and makes it easier for them to get crop insurance.
Johnson says its important farmers and ranchers contact their members of Congress and ask them to pass this legislation.
Johnson says another important piece of legislation, the Young Beginning Farmer and Rancher Opportunity Act, has also been introduced. That measure calls for expanding access to affordable farmland and increases investments in training, business development and local markets.
