A recent Government Accounting Office report says the Obama administration needs to do more to stop the sharp decline in the U.S. bee population. Bruce, South Dakota honey producer and beekeeper Richard Adee agrees with the report and says losses have been climbing. He says there are many factors leading to the losses that need addressing.
Adee says the biggest challenge for beekeepers is colony collapse disorder, also known as disappearing disease.
GAO officials say while the USDA has improved oversight of honeybee colonies, the department needs to do more with other agencies to monitor native and wild bees and fix the gaps in existing conservation practices.
