U-S beef exports in February saw an increase at Central and South America, but the real leader has been South Korea and other Asian markets. Joe Schuele is with the U-S Mat Export Federation and says South Korea has been on a beef buying spree. Pork exports for February showed some decline, especially in China as Chinese farmers re-stock their herds following the outbreak of African Swine Fever. However, Schuele says there were a few pork export bright spots. The U-S Meat Export Federation official says during the pandemic, meat exports rose at the retail market level since restaurant dining had dropped off. Schule says meat exports have had some challenges with shipping backlogs at the ports, plus COVID lockdown in Shanghai. Overall, Schuele says meat exports have performed well.
