A person familiar with the deal tells The Associated Press that former Nebraska offensive coordinator Tim Beck will be hired by Ohio State to replace Tom Herman, who is becoming the head coach at Houston.

The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the deal was not to be announced until after Ohio State played Oregon on Monday night in the College Football Playoff national championship game.

ESPN.com first reported Beck would be hired by Ohio State.

Herman has been Buckeyes co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach under Urban Meyer since 2012.

Beck had been at Nebraska since 2008, but he was not retained by new coach Mike Riley after Bo Pelini was fired.

Beck worked with Ohio State co-offensive coordinator and line coach Ed Warinner at Kansas in 2007.
