The battle between the United States and Argentina over dumping of biodiesel by Argentina into the U.S. market is continuing. The U.S. Court of International Trade ruled the U.S. Commerce Department must explain how it found cause for antidumping by Argentina. National Biodiesel Board’s Paul Winters says the Commerce Department has responded to the court’s request.
He says now the U.S. Commerce Department is in the process of making certain changes as to how it calculates the amount of product that was dumped into the U.S. from Argentina that faces retaliation.
Winters says while the Commerce Department is reviewing its calculations, the original duties ordered by the WTO on Argentina remain in place.
The Commerce Department’s review could potentially lead to lower counter vailing duties on biodiesel imports from Argentina. The U.S. imported about $1.2 billion worth of biodiesel from Argentina in 2016 prior to the duties being imposed.
