There is bad news for Nebraskans who have individual health insurance policies. A new report shows that Blue Cross Blue Shield of Nebraska plans on increasing premium rates by 35% in 2017. They are not alone. Medica plans to increase rates more than 35%, Enterprise Life plans a 17%-plus hike and Federation Mutual Insurance Company a nearly 19% increase. Art Jetter is the owner of Jetter & Company Insurance in Omaha and says typically if they ask for an increase they get it.
Jetter says some people have figured out the system.
Jetter says lawmakers are looking at a number of proposals to stop that practice. All requested increases are analyzed by regulators, both Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and the state where the request is filed.
