2016 was a great year for wind development in the United States. According to new EIA data, more than 20 percent of electricity generation came from wind power in Iowa, South Dakota, Kansas, Oklahoma and North Dakota. American Wind Energy Association Manager of Industry Data and Analysis John Hensley says wind power provided a lot of electricity throughout the country.

He says the upper Midwest continues to be a great area for wind energy development.

Hensley expects even more wind energy development this year in the upper Midwest.

The new Energy Information Administration data also shows that wind turbines operating in 40 states generated approximately four times the amount of solar electricity production and near what hydroelectric dams generated throughout the country.
