Award winning cheesemaker Marieke Penterman is the keynote speaker for the Got Milk Gala in Brookings, South Dakota tonight. Penterman and her husband own Holland’s Family Cheese in Thorpe, Wisconsin. They specialize in Gouda and sell product all over the world.
Penterman is originally from Holland and she brought some of the traditional cheese making techniques to the United States. They now produce 25 different flavors of her famous Marieke Gouda and two of the top prize winners will be featured at the Gala.
Penterman’s also own the dairy operation that supplies milk for the cheese, which gives them the designation of a farmstead cheese producer.
She says they also provide tours of their operation and hosted nearly 160,000 visitors last year. The Got Milk Gala is the kickoff event for Dairy Fest in Brookings, which runs through Saturday.
