The recently released “STARS” report card on South Dakota schools compiles student testing scores and district ratings.
Of six hundred sixty schools in the state, only thirty-four were rated “exemplary,” the highest rating.
In that group is the Avon elementary and high school.
Avon Superintendent Tom Culver says they have motivated parents and teachers, focused on their students….
Culver says the new “Smarter Balance” testing is quite different than the old “Dakota Step” test……
Culver says while it is nice to be recognized, they know they have to give students lifelong, usable skills…..
Culver says besides the good test results, their enrollment grew by eighteen students this fall, with now over two hundred sixty students in their schools.
