Lake Thompson, in Kingsbury County has been out of its banks for years, flooding nearby homes and roads. Now the state Department of Environment and Natural Resources is planning to open the outlet in hopes of lowering the lake level.

Senator Art Rusch of Vermillion says that could be a problem…

Rusch says there is a lack of river basin management….

Following heavy rains this week, Lake Thompson is less than a foot below its record level set last October.
