Augustana University men’s basketball is ranked No. 1 in the National Association of Basketball Coaches’ Preseason Poll the national organization announced Tuesday.
The Vikings, who spent 15 straight weeks ranked in the top-25 last season, are coming off a school record 31 wins last season.
Augustana was ranked as high as second last season, its highest regular season ranking in school history, and was ranked second in the final poll of the 2014-15 season on March 3.
Earlier this fall, Augustana was ranked preseason No. 1 by the Division II Bulletin and No. 2 by Sporting News.
Last week, Augustana was the unanimous pick to finish first in the overall and South Division in the 2015-16 NSIC Preseason Coaches’ Poll.
Daniel Jansen was named the Preseason Player of the Year for the South Division in the NSIC Preseason Coaches’ Poll and was also named a preseason All-America selection by the Division II Bulletin.
The Vikings will play two exhibition contests in November, starting with Bethel University at 8 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 2 at the Elmen Center. Later that week Augustana will travel to Iowa City to take on the University of Iowa in an exhibition game at Carver-Hawkeye Arena on Friday, Nov. 6 at 7 p.m.
